Alice talks about her experiences

Hi, I'm Alice, and I was diagnosed at 22, which I definitely found hard at first, but it's getting easier to accept, and I'm still learning how to unmask.

My mum tried to get me diagnosed when I was around 5, but they sent me away saying I have social anxiety and I've always felt different from people who I went to school with, and I didn't feel like I completely fit in, even though I sometimes struggle.

I didn't do well at school; it was hard, and I didn't get any of my GCSEs because I didn't understand what was happening or being explained to me. I did enjoy college a bit more, but I had meltdowns when I had to do placements, and that's what led me to drop out.

It took a few years after some scary things happening that I got onto the waiting list and was finally diagnosed at 22 and it has very much getting better since then. AWP being a big part in this and I'm thankful for the help they give the community.

Plus they let me share pictures of my gremlin chihuahua called Stitch :)
